Working Memories 2013. With older people, in five venues across Derbyshire, inc Dementia Cafe’s, Age UK and Stroke Support Groups.
The project gathered and illustrated memories on the theme of work. It recalls a time when most young people started work at 14, left school on a Friday, started work on the Monday. This was a time when a job was for life, with long working days, poor conditions, and often a six-day week. Artist, Lois Blackburn created artwork based on participants own words, and illustrated the stories in collage and embroidery, put together as handmade books and embroideries.
Each host venue received a memory box filled with handmade books, embroideries, a series of short films on DVDs illustrating sound recordings of older people sharing memories of working life. Artwork was toured around Derbyshire Libraries.
