On paper

When Lois picks up a sketchbook, she draws everyday life- whether a hospital ward, a holiday view, or a front room. Sometimes drawing is a way to investigate a theme, such as the illustrations above from arthur+martha project Patience, an insiders guide to ill health. 2009-2010 Working with older people in health care settings, Stockport.

Sketchbook work

Lois’s illustrations from project ‘Working Memories’ 2013. The project gathered memories of older people on the themes of work, poverty and farming. The people spoke about hardship, boredom, friendships, expectations, with a mixture of humour, poignancy honesty and so often a great affection for the past. You can hear some of their voices, recorded in the short films below.
